Am I insane for doing NaNoWriMo this year, when I’ve got so many projects on my plate? Possibly. Do I care? Uh…. Nope.
Today was the first day I added fresh, new words to The Last Dance in far too long, and I’m not gonna lie; it felt damn good. I’ve really missed Caitlin and her band of misfits. While I thoroughly enjoyed immersing myself in the world of tarot this year while bringing The Beautiful Rebellion (and more to the point the deck’s hefty guidebook) to fruition, I really have missed writing urban fantasy. I never intended to stray so far for so long from The Warding but …
Well, let’s be honest. Shit happens. Tarot happened, in this case. A lot more energy and time was required to turn that personal passion project into a product I was proud to share with the world than I had ever anticipated–than I had ever originally intended! I’m damn proud of how she turned out and that she’s already going into her second edition, so no regrets here.
But now its time to get back to the mess that I left in Faerie. And what more perfect time to do so than in the wonderful, frustrating, hair-pullingly mad dash that is National Novel Writing Month?
Yes, yes, yes–I’m kinda sorta probably technically breaking the rules by jumping mid-way into a partially written manuscript but… who cares? The point is to finish that manuscript, and the 50,000 words of NaNo will put me most of the way there, but likely still 10K or 20K short of where I expect to end up. Having a high word count and frenetic pace might just be what I need to get my back into a good writing habit. Or maybe it will be what finally drives me screaming off the deep end. Either way, it’ll be fun to see what come out of it.
Feel free to add me as a writing buddy if you too are participating this year! I’d love to hear about what you are writing. ❤
